CUPE 116 and UBC reach tentative agreement

CUPE 116 and UBC reach tentative agreement

CUPE and the University of British Columbia have reached a tentative agreement. CUPE 116, representing around 2,700 workers that provide support services at UBC, reached the tentative deal with the province’s largest university earlier this week.

“I want to thank CUPE 116 members for their support and interest throughout this round of bargaining. The bargaining committee is pleased with the tentative agreement and believe that we have achieved a fair and equitable deal that recognizes and improves the terms and conditions of employment for our members,” said Dave Lance, president of CUPE 116.

When ratified, the 3-year renewed collective agreement will be in place from April 1, 2022 (retroactively) to March 31, 2025. Further details on the agreement won’t be released until presented to CUPE 116 members and a ratification vote it is held.

CUPE 116 members provide crucial services at UBC work, and work as tradespeople & labourers, custodial workers, housekeepers, animal care workers, residence life workers, technicians, bartenders & servers, food services workers, student housing & hospitality service workers, dental assistants, campus mail workers, horticulturists, security & parking officers, clerks, bookstore employees, and more.
