University workers set to bargain

VICTORIA – University support workers in several CUPE locals have served notice to bargain with their respective employers.

The CUPE workers provide important services at universities across the province including maintenance, administrative support, custodial support, food services, horticulture, child care, teaching assistance, print shops, IT services/technical support and library services. The Universities Coordinated Bargaining Committee reports it will work to protect and improve wages, rights and benefits for its members.

Serving notice were CUPE 917, CUPE 951, one component of CUPE 4163 (University of Victoria), CUPE 3886 (Royal Roads), CUPE 3338 (Simon Fraser University), CUPE 4879 (Thompson Rivers University), and CUPE 3799 (University of Northern BC). The Teaching Support Staff Union at SFU also served notice to bargain Monday.

Most of the locals have collective agreements which expire tomorrow (March 31).
