BURNABY – CUPE BC Officers and General Vice-Presidents welcomed more than 100 new and returning delegates to the 2025 Convention Orientation on Wednesday evening. Held online one week before the Convention opens, the orientation is organized in advance of each annual gathering to ensure that new delegates feel ready to participate fully in the convention business.
“With so many new activists throughout our region, it is important to make sure everyone has the skills and knowledge to confidently participate in convention; understanding their role as delegates and how their participation contributes to setting direction and priorities for our provincial division over the coming year,” said Karen Ranalletta, President of CUPE BC.
One hundred and twenty-four resolutions were served to the 2025 Convention by CUPE BC committees, district councils, and local affiliates. These resolutions reflect the biggest issues affecting members and their communities throughout the province: safety and human rights, affordable housing, and defending public services from underfunding and threats of privatization.
“Enthusiastic participation in Convention, the key democratic gathering of our union, is a great sign of the strength of our membership in the region and our capacity to meet any challenge in the years ahead,” said Tony Rebelo, CUPE BC Secretary-Treasurer. The decisions made at convention update our Constitution, adopts our budget, and provides a strategic plan for the coming year, directly from members.
