Union leaders to address public rally in support of striking CUPE 561 members

CHILLIWACK– BC Federation of Labour Secretary-Treasurer Hermender Singh Kailley, CUPE BC President Karen Ranalletta, and CUPE 7000 (SkyTrain workers) President Tony Rebelo will be among the speakers at a public rally to be held here tomorrow in support of CUPE 561 (First Transit), whose members have been on the picket lines for more than three weeks since the full withdrawal of transit services in the Fraser Valley.

The rally, to be held at the Five Corners Intersection at 12 noon, will be hosted by Ranalletta and will also feature addresses by CUPE 561 President Jane Gibbons and two striking members of the local. CUPE 561, which is seeking wage parity with other transit workers in the region, better working conditions, and a pension, is calling on BC Transit to step in and end the strike.
