BURNABY – Effective today, Community Social Service workers will be using a newly developed medical form for absences from work of more than five days. The new forms were developed during a three-day arbitration regarding a policy grievance filed about the appropriateness of medical leave forms in obtaining medical information from employees.
Arbitrator Wayne Moore balanced the employee’s right to privacy and an employer’s right to information when he issued his decision in June.
BC’s Community Social Services Workers (CSSBA) and the Community Social Services Employers’ Association of BC (CCSEA) jointly developed the forms. The new Medical Information forms replace all previous reporting forms for work absences of more than five days.
This form does not affect any forms used by the Community Social Services Early Intervention Plan (CSSEIP).
CUPE represents approximately 2,500 social services workers in B.C. and is the second largest member of CSSBA.
