CUPE BC Statement on the Passing of UFCW 1518 President Kim Novak

CUPE BC Statement on the Passing of UFCW 1518 President Kim Novak

BURNABY— Kim Novak was more than a union leader. She was a dynamic, dedicated, and passionate advocate for some of the most overlooked workers in our province. A friend to all working people, Kim made time for what mattered, and never failed to show up for other unions whenever workers anywhere were under threat.

In addition to being a fearsome advocate, Kim was a truly lovely person. She led with kindness and compassion, sharing friendship and support to those whose lives she touched. As Officers of CUPE BC, her colleagues around the BC Federation of Labour’s table, we are beyond devastated at Kim’s passing. Like all those who knew her, our memories of Kim have left a lasting impression that we will continue to cherish as we come to terms with this loss.

On behalf of all CUPE members in BC, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Kim’s family and friends, and the entire UFCW union family. We have offered CUPE BC’s support to UFCW 1518 as they mourn, process and recover from this loss.

Friends, Kim’s passing is a tragic reminder of how fragile life can be. Please remember to take care of each other, take the time you need to maintain your health, and spend time with your loved ones.

In solidarity,

Karen Ranalletta
President
