CUPE 386 and City of Coquitlam ratify new contract

CUPE 386 and City of Coquitlam ratify new contract

December 11, 2023

COQUITLAM – CUPE 386 members, Coquitlam municipal workers, and the City of Coquitlam have ratified a new three-year collective agreement that addresses affordability for workers and ensures continued reliable public services for residents, businesses, and visitors.

CUPE 386 President Vim Sharma emphasized the collaborative nature of this round of negotiations, which centered on resolving workplace concerns for both employees and the City.

“This round of negotiations both parties were focused on having constructive conversations that led to the development of mutually beneficial solutions, aimed at not only enhancing the well-being of workers but also optimizing service delivery for the community,” notes Sharma.

The three-year contract provides wage increases of 5 percent in 2023, 4.5 percent in 2024 and 3.5 percent in 2025. It also includes a one-time lump sum inflationary support payment of 3 percent, based on 2022 wages.

Other key improvements include new, more inclusive language around bereavement leave as well as increases to employer paid extended health care premium costs and an increased boot allowance.

“CUPE 386 members are proud to provide important public services in Coquitlam and we look forward to continuing to work with the City of Coquitlam to deliver those services to residents and businesses,” adds Sharma.

CUPE 386 represents 1100 workers who deliver quality municipal services in Coquitlam.
