Family Fun Day a huge hit with community

Family Fun Day a huge hit with community

VICTORIA – Close to 350 people helped celebrate CUPE 2081’s 40th anniversary at the Family Fun Day held at Camosun College on May 31, 2014.

“This event was a great way to connect our local and the community,” said CUPE 2081 President Tony Nelson. “I’d like to give a huge shout-out to everyone who helped.”

Nelson thanked the organizing committee, CUPE 2081 members and executive and the many volunteers who helped bring it all together, as well as the public for attending. CUPE Local 382, Camosun College Student Society staff, and Unifor Local 333 – BC also pitched in to make the community event a success.  CUPE BC provided yo-yos, footballs, and foam frisbees and CUPE National helped cover the cost to put on the community event.

The free family-friendly event was a huge hit with the community.

Fun for the whole family included:

  • Tall accelerator slide
  • Bouncy castle
  • Face painting
  • Photo booth
  • Bean bag toss
  • Food

Former president Jerry Oetting noted that folks were impressed and appreciated the free event. “Many parents went home with very happy, tired, and gonna sleep well tonight children,” said Oetting.

CUPE Local 2081 represents 549 support staff at Camosun College. They are also holding a dinner and dance in August as part of their 40th celebrations.

Visit the CUPE BC gallery to view photos of the event.
