Powell River Municipal Bargaining Update

POWELL RIVER – The union representing municipal workers has applied for mediation through the BC Labour Relations Board to expedite contract talks with the City of Powell River.

CUPE Local 798 represents more than 150 City of Powell River municipal workers and has been at the table since October 2009.  Grant McArthur has been appointed mediator, and the union hopes to have bargaining dates set for later this month.

In keeping with CUPE 798’s mutual agreement with the City of Powell River, specific details of the contract talks will not be made public until a settlement has been reached. CUPE 798 president Graham Mahy did say the union is confident the two sides can reach a fair and equitable agreement and is looking forward to returning to the bargaining table.
