CUPE BC kicks off ‘Proud, Strong, United’ convention in Vancouver

VANCOUVER—British Columbia’s biggest union—CUPE BC—kicks off its 52nd annual convention in Vancouver tomorrow night, as more than 600 delegates from across the province gather together at the Westin Bayshore.

Convention runs from 7 pm Wednesday, April 29 until 4 pm on Saturday, May 2.

HIGHLIGHTS:

WEDNESDAY

7 pm:          Convention opens with welcome from Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson, opening address from CUPE BC President Mark Hancock

THURSDAY

11 am:        CUPE National President Paul Moist
2 pm:          NDP MP Libby Davies

FRIDAY

10 am:       May Day presentation, salute to locked-out/striking CUPE workers
11 am:       CUPE National Secretary-Treasurer Charles Fleury
2 pm:         Keynote Speaker Stephen Lewis, Professor of Distinction, Ryerson University
4 pm:         BC NDP Leader John Horgan

SATURDAY

10 am:       Elections for president, secretary-treasurer, general vice president (4), trustee
1:30 pm:     International Solidarity Speaker Reyna Isabel Tejada Mateo, Regional Coordinator for CODEMUH, Honduras
