International Women’s Day celebrations begin

International Women’s Day celebrations begin

VANCOUVER- The community celebrated International Women’s Day in style on Saturday, March 5 with a parade down Vancouver’s Commercial Drive, followed by an indoor festival at the WISE Hall.

In honour of the 100 year anniversary of IWD, the parade featured women representing different times from the past. CUPE women were there with one of the new CUPE BC banners celebrating women at work and in our communities.

Across the water in Victoria, MP Denise Savoie hosted a very successful event “Building Community from the Grassroots Up: A Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day “on Sunday, March 6 at the Belfry Arts Centre.

On March 8 the CUPE Metro District Council is sponsoring a free IWD luncheon for women in the Tri-Cities. Other events can be found on the CUPE BC events calendar.
