CUPE BC supports QMUNITY programs at IDAHOT breakfast

IDAHOT_breakie_-_MR_pic.jpgVANCOUVER—CUPE BC sponsorship helped raise more than $74,000 for QMUNITY programs at a breakfast event held in advance of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT).

The 12th annual IDAHOT breakfast, held at the Fairmont Hotel on May 13, raised funds for QMUNITY, a non-profit organization that houses or operates programmes and initiatives for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and other sexual minority (LGBT+) communities. QMUNITY employees are members of CUPE Local 3495-17.

At this year’s IDAHOT breakfast, speakers described how funding for QMUNITY has provided critical support through programmes such as Youth Workers, biannual cabarets, outreach in small B.C. communities, and the Diversity Mentor position at Vancouver schools. Funds raised this year will help the organization respond to LGBT+ community needs on a daily basis year-round.

“We could not have accomplished this without you,” said QMUNITY board chair Morgan Camley, in a thank-you message to sponsors.

“At this time of transition and growth, your generosity inspires us to continue going further to make queer and trans lives better—knowing we have people like you backing us up. Thank you for changing lives.”
