CUPE BC launches environment contest

CUPE BC launches environment contest

VANCOUVER-CUPE BC has launched an Environment Allstars contest. Open to CUPE members in B.C., the contest is designed to highlight creative projects that support the environment and to engage and celebrate CUPE members who have shown leadership as stewards of the environment in their lives, their workplaces, or their communities.

Apart from doing good for the environment, members who enter can win some great prizes. The Grand Prize for the most outstanding entry is a two-night getaway at Harrison Hot Springs.  There are also three smaller prizes: a $250.00 Mountain Equipment Co-op gift certificate; an Edible Canada “Best of BC” Gourmet Gift basket; and a Discover Wines Gold Medal and Artisanal Food Basket from the Okanagan.

CUPE BC’s Environment Committee will judge the entries and select winners based on four criteria:

    • Benefit to the Environment
    • Personal contribution of time and effort;
    • Resourcefulness (e.g. reusing existing materials);
    • Creativity/Inventiveness

The deadline for entries is September 30, 2015. Members can find the entry form and more information about the contest at www.enviroallstars.ca.  Winners will be announced in October.

CUPE BC’s Environment Committee has a mandate to provide information about environmental problems and new methods of protecting the environment.  The committee also does community education work on environmental issues.
