ABBOTSFORD—The Canadian Union of Public Employees and the Council of Canadians are hosting a town hall meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 11 in Abbotsford to raise awareness about a new trade deal that threatens vital public services like water, transit, energy and health care. CUPE National President Paul Moist, Council of Canadians National Chairperson Maude Barlow and Lynn Perrin, spokesperson for Water Watch Mission-Abbotsford will speak at the event.
Canada and the European Union are negotiating a new Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) which they hope to sign by the end of this year. CUPE and the Council of Canadians oppose the deal because of the negative impact it will have on public services and health care.
