CUPE rally Monday to target United Church in Naramata Centre strike

BURNABY – Supporters of striking CUPE members at the Naramata Centre, operated by the United Church of Canada, will rally outside the Church’s offices in Burnaby Monday morning. They will be calling on the Church to stop plans to contract out local jobs at the Naramata Centre and to bargain in good faith with the Centre’s unionized staff.

CUPE Local 608 workers at the United Church’s Centre at Naramata near Penticton have been on strike for three months. Despite their years of loyal & dedicated service, the Centre’s management is now trying to contract out CUPE jobs.

CUPE National President Paul Moist, CUPE BC President Mark Hancock and BC Federation of Labour President Jim Sinclair will be on hand to press for meaningful negotiations as the strike enters its fourth month.
