Solidarity with CUPW on the Island – rally today

COURTENAY – CUPE 3479 members from North Island College joined locked out Canadian Union of Postal Workers on the picket line yesterday. Michelle Waite, president of CUPE 3479, said that the CUPW members really appreciated CUPE’s presence and enjoyed the energy of a new group on the line.

“We livened up the line and the positive reaction from the CUPW members was overwhelming,” says Waite. “It was a quick turnaround time for our decision to support yesterday, but in light of the back-to-work legislation introduced by the Harper government on Thursday, we wanted to show solidarity.”

Waite will be speaking at a rally Friday, June 24 at 5 p.m. in the forecourt of the Sid Williams Theatre in Courtenay. A poster about the rally is attached.
