CUPE 389 to host street party at NSWC

CUPE 389 to host street party at NSWC

NORTH VANCOUVER – This Saturday (August 17) CUPE members and community members are invited to join locked out CUPE employees at the North Shore Winter Club (NSWC) for a street party from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This will be a fun event for all ages and will feature a free BBQ and refreshments, music, and the CUPE community events trailer.

CUPE 389 is encouraging everyone to come out and enjoy a fun Saturday while supporting our locked out CUPE brothers and sisters at the NSWC.

August 17 will mark day 107 of the lockout at the NSWC. On May 3, 16 CUPE 389 employees were locked out by management and board members after CUPE employees rejected a final offer which included a 30 percent reduction to benefits, reduced sick time, schedule changes and zero wage increases.

CUPE 389 employees at the NSWC are dedicated professionals that ensure the health and safety of the family recreation centre. They work as building service workers, maintenance workers, iceman and stationary equipment operators and are responsible for handling dangerous chemicals at the club including ammonia and chlorine.

WHAT: Street Party at the NSWC
WHERE: 1325 E Keith Road, North Vancouver
WHEN: Saturday August 17 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
WHY: To support locked out CUPE employees at the NSWC

HOW CAN YOU HELP END THIS DISPUTE?

Please send a message to management and board members at the NSWC.
