CUPE 15 welcomes new members at Langara

CUPE 15 welcomes new members at Langara

VANCOUVER – Langara English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) instructors at Langara College voted overwhelmingly to join CUPE 15 in a Labour Board vote conducted last week. CUPE 15’s newest members will join 416 support staff at Langara College.

“Our local is very pleased to welcome these 52 members who prepare students at Langara College for success,” said CUPE 15 President Warren Williams. “They were unswerving in their commitment to become unionized.”

Williams notes that many of the LEAP instructors have worked at Langara for a decade or more and have been persistent in their attempts to have union representation.

CUPE Local 15 represents more than 7,500 members working for 19 employers located in the Metro Vancouver area. They work mostly in the public sector in jobs ranging from educational, administrative and technical to recreational, health care, cultural and residential.

Across Canada, close to 68,000 CUPE members work in community colleges and universities, providing services to students, staff and their communities.
