CUPE 1004 office gutted by fire

CUPE 1004 office gutted by fire

VANCOUVER—The offices of CUPE 1004, which represents 3,500 City of Vancouver workers, was gutted this afternoon by fire. The staff at the Maritime Labour Centre office were not injured.  Vancouver Police say they have an unidentified man (not affiliated to CUPE 1004) in custody who was arrested at the scene.

CUPE 1004 president Mike Jackson called it “an extremely unfortunate incident,” adding that “fortunately no CUPE 1004 members or office staff were hurt – everyone got out unscathed.”  Jackson said the fire damage to the union office is extensive.   The police investigation continues.
