Supporting students in clean and healthy schools
This committee promotes quality public education as a pillar of our communities, and highlights the crucial role CUPE school support members play in the success of B.C. students. The Committee
also advises and promotes programs and initiatives that support strong public education.
The Committee fosters important connections between school support workers across the province. It provides space to share and collaborate on issues that impact our schools, and the workers who make them work.
Defending our public education workers
This term, the Committee discussed many challenges facing school support workers, including the need to establish provincial education standards for education assistants, the increasing prevalence of workplace violence, and ways to make school bus travel safer for both students and workers. Members also considered ideas to address province-wide recruitment and retention challenges for workers in public education.
To support reconciliation, the Committee developed strategies to engage with locals about TRC’s Calls to Action.
Committee members remain committed to empowering school support workers in serving and defending our public education system.
