All-out strike set at SFU

All-out strike set at SFU

BURNABY – Striking CUPE Local 3338 support workers have scheduled an all-out, all-campus withdrawal of services for Wednesday, Nov. 7.  The union says picket lines will go up at the Burnaby Mountain, Surrey and downtown Vancouver campuses.

The 1,000-member union has been escalating job action in an effort to get the university administration back to the bargaining table. The workers have been without a contract for more than two years. Their counterparts at other BC universities have been getting new collective agreements, including CUPE locals at UBC, UNBC, Thompson Rivers, Royal Roads and UVic.

The Burnaby campus was shut down yesterday and will remain behind picket lines today. Pickets will also be going up at the SFU Surrey campus today and at SFU Harbour Centre and SFU Woodward’s on Saturday and Sunday.
