Armstrong library workers vote to join CUPE

ARMSTRONG—Library workers at the Armstrong branch of the Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) voted overwhelmingly in favour of becoming the newest members of CUPE 1123 last Friday, November 30.

Rose Jurkic, CUPE 1123 president, welcomes the newest members to the growing local. In the past several months library workers in Princeton, Oliver, Keremeos, Kaleden and Hedley have all decided to join CUPE 1123. The local now represents close to 200 library workers throughout the Okanagan.

“The message we keep hearing from new members is that they believe that joining CUPE gives them a stronger voice and an avenue to have their concerns represented in a fair and equitable manner,” says Jurkic. “Being a part of CUPE means having a broader support base which includes access to many resources. We are committed to working with our 13 new members and making sure their voices are heard.”

CUPE 1123 now represents front-line workers at 21 of 29 ORL branches in the Okanagan.
