Congratulations to Irene Lanzinger and Aaron Ekman from CUPE BC

VANCOUVER—CUPE BC President Mark Hancock and Secretary-Treasurer Paul Faoro congratulated Irene Lanzinger and Aaron Ekman on their election yesterday as the new President and Secretary-Treasurer of the BC Federation of Labour.

“Although our organization supported another candidate, I know that Irene Lanzinger will be a good President for our Federation, and on behalf of CUPE BC, I congratulate her on her election yesterday,” said Hancock.

“We were strong supporters of Aaron Ekman in his campaign for Secretary-Treasurer, and I know he showed all delegates that he will be an effective and progressive leader in our movement for many years to come.  While elections are divisive by their nature, I know we all come out of convention today stronger and more united.”

“I look forward to working with Aaron as fellow secretary-treasurers, and I also congratulate Irene on her victory,” said Faoro. “Both new officers are strong leaders, and we will continue to be strong supporters of the Federation.”

“I’m confident that Irene and Aaron will have the support of all affiliates to tackle the very serious challenges that face the labour movement,” said Hancock.

“I also want to congratulate Amber Hockin on her campaign,” said Hancock. “Although she wasn’t successful in the election yesterday, she ran a campaign focused on practical and innovative commitments that clearly resonated with union members and workers all over the province. We’re proud to have supported her and Aaron.”
