Solidarity with Students over failing funding

Solidarity with Students over failing funding

BURNABYCUPE support and teaching staff members were out in full force across the province today as students returned to university and college campuses for the Fall semester.  The CUPE locals, many of which have been in bargaining since 2010, were on hand to distribute materials and talk with students about the lack of funding for post secondary education and its impact on students and the workers who make our colleges and universities work.

At the North Island College orientation BBQ today, CUPE Local 3479 president Michelle Waite and student union representatives Nicole Lewis and Savannah McKenzie joined forces on the Where’s The Funding campaign saying the students and CUPE employees are both directly affected (pictured above).

At UBC, CUPE members from 2950, 116 and 2278 passed out information on cuts and directed new students to their classrooms (see photo below). A contingent from UBC later joined 3338 at SFU for orientation activities at the Burnaby Mountain campus. Similar action took place at UNBC, TRU, UVic and community colleges.
