CUPE rallies with teachers during BCTF day of action

BURNABY—On Monday, February 27, CUPE members from across British Columbia joined with the BC Teachers’ Federation to participate in the BCTF’s day of action and show solidarity against the government’s plan to force a new contract on teachers through legislation.

CUPE fully supports the BCTF and their locals in their struggle to maintain free collective bargaining in British Columbia.

In Burnaby, CUPE Local 379 members working at the Burnaby School District joined the day of action with staff, teachers, students and community members. Paul Simpson, CUPE Local 379 Acting President, also attended the day of action to show support for teachers and their efforts to achieve a fair collective agreement.

“CUPE members work side by side with teachers every day and we will stand in solidarity with them as they work to secure a new agreement,” said Simpson. “The government should step back from heavy-handed legislation and accept the BCTF’s offer to go into mediation”.
