CUPE 825 members show youth what public services are all about

PORT MOODY–Local youth gathered in Port Moody last Friday (May 24) to celebrate Public Works Day, a day dedicated to showcasing how public services help to enhance communities and make them successful.

CUPE 825 members (Port Moody Civic Workers) were on hand to talk about the services they provide which include solid waste and recycling, water and sewer services, roads services as well as horticultural and parks and were even able to demonstrate how they perform some of these services.

“It’s never too early to learn to learn about public services and the value they bring to communities each and every day,” says CUPE 825 president Raman Braich. “It’s great to be able to showcase the work we do in a fun, interactive way. Getting a chance to not only talk about what we do but to actually show youth what we do is a unique opportunity. It’s great to see kids excited about public services.”

Braich says that collaborating with the City to host this event is also a great way to educate the broader public about the public services CUPE members provide residents and helps them to understand where their tax dollars go.

“Public services are efficient and cost-effective for Port Moody residents and CUPE 825 is proud to be able to deliver those services.”
