SFU: Let them eat Cake – and they did!

SFU: Let them eat Cake – and they did!

BURNABY –CUPE 3338 at Simon Fraser University marked 1,132 days without a contract today by serving cake to its members on the main Burnaby Mountain campus. The cakes read “1132 days without a contract” and “ SFU = bad faith.” One cake was delivered to SFU human resources.

Contract talks have been stalled by the university’s insistence on tying negotiations to problems it is having with its pension plan.  CUPE has repeatedly committed to work on the multi-party plan once  bargaining has been completed and a new collective agreement has been signed.  SFU’s attempts were deemed unfair labour practice by the BC Labour Relations Board, prompting the bad faith equation.

SFU is the only public university or college in the province that has not settled with its CUPE support workers.
