Shaw Cable in Victoria to show Ten Percent Shift launch this weekend

BURNABY—CUPE members in the South Island area who weren’t able to attend CUPE BC President Barry O’Neill’s launch of the Ten Percent Shift campaign in Langford last month are encouraged to tune in to Shaw Cable 11 in Victoria this weekend to catch the premiere of a documentary video shot at the launch.

The video, shot by Victoria videographer Steve Poole, will air four times over this coming weekend. If you can’t watch it live, set your VCR or PVR to record the program and watch it at a more convenient time.

WHAT: TV premiere of Ten Percent Shift launch on Shaw Cable 11 in Victoria

WHEN: Saturday March 5 at 11:00 am and 11:30 pm

Sunday March 6 at 10:00 am and 9:00 pm

Over 400 people attended O’Neill’s presentation. Since the launch, the campaign has been gaining momentum. More than 130 people have already taken the Ten Percent Pledge (www.tenpercentshift.ca) and the Shift’s Facebook page has been growing in popularity. (If you’re a Facebook user, search “Ten Percent Shift” and you’ll find the page.)

In addition, the online newspaper The Tyee’s story on the Shift has been the site’s most-read and most frequently emailed story for the past two weeks. If you haven’t already read it, it can be found here.

The Ten Percent Shift is intended to demonstrate to average citizens the power of their purchasing dollar. Shifting ten percent of your personal spending to locally produced goods and services or locally owned businesses benefits the local economy, which helps make our communities stronger. Check out www.tenpercentshift.ca for more information.
