VANCOUVER—With more than 300,000 government and public sector employees—including tens of thousands of CUPE members—bargaining new collective agreements in 2012, the provincial government continues to push its so-called “cooperative gains” mandate.
Public sector unions negotiating under this mandate have proposed hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenue gains and savings, but the government isn’t interested. Under “cooperative gains,” it is public sector workers who are required to cooperate and only the government that gains.
On Thursday at 12:30, the BCGEU will be holding a rally on the north steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery at the corner of Georgia and Howe Streets. CUPE members are encouraged to attend in solidarity and support for free collective bargaining.
