Comox Town Council Proclaims June 23 Communities Day

Comox Town Council Proclaims June 23 Communities Day

COMOX—CUPE 556, municipal workers in Comox, celebrated this year’s Communities Day last Saturday, by sponsoring a free family swim at the Comox Valley Aquatic Centre.

Comox Town Council adopted a resolution last week to support June 23 as Communities Day.

“Communities Day is about celebrating public services and the men and women who provide them in our community, as well everyone in our community working to build a better Comox,” said CUPE 556 president Cindy Major. “Community members take pride in the city they live and we hope that Communities Day will help support a strong, healthy community.”

Major says that she also hopes to work with the mayors and councillors in Courtenay, Cumberland and the Comox Valley Regional District to have them proclaim Communities Day as well.

Other municipalities in BC that have passed the Communities Day resolution include the District of North Saanich, the District of Oak Bay and the Town of Sidney (CUPE 374), the City of Penticton (CUPE 608) and the City of Prince George (CUPE 1048).
