CUPE BC executive board unanimously endorses Amber Hockin for President and Aaron Ekman for Secretary-Treasurer of BC Federation of Labour

CUPE BC executive board unanimously endorses Amber Hockin for President and Aaron Ekman for Secretary-Treasurer of BC Federation of Labour

BURNABY—In advance of next month’s elections at the BC Federation of Labour convention in Vancouver, CUPE BC’s executive board has voted unanimously to endorse Amber Hockin for President and Aaron Ekman for Secretary-Treasurer.

“Our executive members know Amber Hockin very well from her work at the Pacific Region of the Canadian Labour Congress, and once they heard she’d put her name forward for President of the BC Fed there was strong support for her candidacy,” said CUPE BC President Mark Hancock.

“Our executive board is proud to endorse Amber and Aaron. We are confident that they will provide strong and progressive leadership for the Federation through the challenging times facing the labour movement. They’re the right leaders at the right time, and we look forward to working with them both.”

CUPE BC Secretary-Treasurer Paul Faoro said he has worked closely with Hockin over the past two years on a variety of issues. “I’m really impressed with Amber’s ability to bring people of differing viewpoints together to achieve consensus. I know Amber will be a strong force within the Federation and will work well with the BC NDP Opposition. Under her leadership, the Federation will be a solid support for our party as we prepare for government after the 2017 election.

“I also know that Aaron is a passionate and committed union activist who will ensure the finances of the Federation are well looked after,” said Faoro. “I’m looking forward to casting my ballot on November 27 and electing Amber and Aaron as President and Secretary-Treasurer.”

The BC Federation of Labour convention will be held November 24-28 in Vancouver. Voting day is November 27.
