FRASER VALLEY REGIONAL DISTRICT—CUPE Local 458 workers have ratified a new three-year collective agreement.
The Regional District workers and the employer, with the help of mediator Debbie Cameron, have a new contract which runs until December 31, 2013. Included in the package are wage increases of 2 per cent (2011), 1.5 per cent (2012) and 1.5 per cent (2013).
CUPE 458 president Bryan Bickley says “that while this has been one of the more difficult rounds of negotiations at the FVRD, the union is pleased that the process of fair collective bargaining was respected by both parties. We look forward to continuing to provide exceptional service to our community.”
The agreement also includes improvements to benefit packages, an increased boot allowance, and a commitment from the employer to continue to work towards the implementation of a modified work week.
CUPE 458 represents inside and outside workers in the Fraser Valley Regional District. Inside workers provide clerical services in the FVRD office, as well as bylaw enforcement, network protection, planning, building inspection, and 911 dispatch; outside workers provide water/sewer installation and maintenance, park maintenance, as well as weed control services.
