CUPE members utilize skills to help community

Habitat for Humanity multi-plex building project a cooperative effort involving Habitat for Humanity, the City of Grand Forks and CUPE 4728 members

GRAND FORKS — CUPE 4728 members are volunteering their services for a community project that brings together municipal workers, the City of Grand Forks and Habitat for Humanity. Grand Forks’ City Council donated materials, supplies and the use of City equipment. CUPE 4728 members will volunteer their time, labour and expertise to install the water and sewer services.

City Council donated land to enable Habitat for Humanity to build individual houses. Habitat for Humanity, with the help of City Council and CUPE members, is now building a multi-plex for people in need.

“This is an exciting project that will benefit our community,” says CUPE 4728 president Ross Idler. “Our members are proud to help Habitat and to contribute to their extraordinary efforts constructing housing locally. This isn’t the first time we’ve done this type of project for a non-profit and we hope to continue working with Council and CUPE volunteers to build a better future in our community.”
