Meeting tonight on district budget shortfalls

Meeting tonight on district budget shortfalls

Education minister should accept VSB invite

VANCOUVER—The first of a series of public meetings on the Vancouver school district budget is being held tonight and Paul Faoro, president of CUPE 15, is hoping that Margaret MacDiarmid will accept the board’s invitation to attend.

“The public deserves to see Minister MacDiarmid here tonight to hear firsthand how this district is struggling with an $18 million funding shortfall. The meeting is even happening within her constituency of Vancouver-Fairview. The question is, will she have the courage to show up,” said Faoro.

What: Vancouver school budget meeting (Education & Student Services/Finance & Legal Plenary meeting)

Where: Room 114 (Boardroom), Vancouver School Board Education Centre, 1580 West Broadway, Vancouver BC

When: 7:00 pm. Paul Faoro will be available at the meeting by 6:30 p.m.

CUPE is concerned that cuts will affect special education and other programs and services. Also on the table will likely be school calendar changes and possible school closures.
