Union Education

When you get involved with CUPE it means learning new things about yourself, your union, and your community.

One of the ways that CUPE supports our members and the work that we do on behalf of the Union is through our Union Education Program.

You can attend workshops during the week or weekend, during the day or in the evening.  Your Local can sponsor a workshop; your local area District Council can plan seminars; or you can attend our Spring and Fall Weeklong Schools.

CUPE Education Representatives

There are two CUPE Education Representatives in BC serving different regions of the province. If you have any questions about CUPE's Union Education program in BC, please contact:

Greg Burkitt (gburkitt@cupe.ca) if your CUPE Local or District Council is situated in Northern BC, the Okanagan or on Vancouver Island.

OR

Ruth Scher (rscher@cupe.ca) if your CUPE Local or District Council is based in Metro Vancouver (Lower Mainland), the Fraser Valley or the Kootenays.

Attend a Workshop - CUPE Education Calendars

CUPE Locals and District Councils sponsor training workshops for their members throughout the year. To see what is available, click on the link below to view the 2014 CUPE Education Calendar. The Education Calendar is updated regularly. New workshops are added all the time.

If you want to attend a workshop, contact your Local Executive or Education Committee.

If you are a member and you are interested in a workshop but your Local isn't sponsoring it, contact your Local to find out if other members are interested and you might be able to get a workshop put on in your community; or you might consider registering for a workshop being offered somewhere else in the province.

Workshop Notices

To register for a workshop, please download the Notice and complete the Registration Form.

Notices for workshops will be posted on the Union Education website when they are mailed out.

Sponsor a Workshop - Complete Workshop Request Forms

If your Local or District Council would like to sponsor a workshop for the 2014 CUPE Education Calendar please complete and submit the online  Workshop Request Form.

These forms should be filled out by a Local or District Council. If you would like your Local to request a workshop, contact your Steward or Local Executive Board member.

The CUPE Education Representative (either Greg or Ruth) works with the sponsoring Local or District Council to provide all the materials needed for workshops and books knowledgeable facilitators who deliver the workshops.
