On March 31, 2010 Capital Regional District (CRD) directors approved a business case that will see public operation in at least five, and possibly all seven communities working to develop new sewage treatment and resource recovery. In September 2010 a revised business case was approved confirming that the main McLoughlin Point treatment facility would be publicly operated and planning for a privately run biosolids energy centre.
The B.C. government and Partnerships BC are now reviewing the business case.
During public consultations, in February and March, many people spoke passionately for public sewage treatment. We also have many of the written submissions available here.
We need to keep the pressure on. Join our facebook group. You can also contact the Campaign Coordinator. You should also check out the Greater Victoria Water Watch Coalition.
We know there is broad support for public sewage treatment, and there are many reasons to say NO to privatization.
The campaign for public sewage treatment started in 2006 when the provincial government directed the Capital Regional District – the regional government in Greater Victoria to bring in secondary sewage treatment. Please see the news section for the key events and if you want more detailed information take a look at our reports and research section.
