Faoro meets with Naramata Centre Board and CUPE members

PENTICTON—CUPE BC Secretary-Treasurer Paul Faoro joined CUPE 608 Naramata Unit Chair Brenda Lende and other Naramata Centre workers for a meeting in Penticton this weekend.

Faoro met with the board of directors of the Naramata Centre Society in the morning. Later in the day, he reported out on his meeting and talked with CUPE members about concerns around the Centre’s proposed contracting out of services.

“Members are very upset about what the contracting out means for Naramata’s future and for their own futures. While I was in Penticton I shared CUPE’s concerns and our members concerns with the Centre’s board of directors. I reinforced the strong message that has been sent to the board by members of the United Church community and Centre users asking that they withdraw contracting out proposals and work with their employees to find solutions,” said Faoro.

“Our members want to work with the Centre to build for the future. But they know that CUPE is there to support them legally if the Centre continues to view employees as the problem rather than the solution and forges ahead with contracting out services.”
