CUPE 389 members at the NSWC ratify new agreement, lockout comes to an end

CUPE 389 members at the NSWC ratify new agreement, lockout comes to an end

NORTH VANCOUVER – CUPE 389 employees at the North Shore Winter Club will be returning to work after being locked out by their employer for more than seven months.

A tentative agreement was reached yesterday, December 23, with the assistance of a mediator and CUPE 389 members voted 91 percent in favour of ratifying the agreement this morning (December 24).

“We are pleased to have reached a no concession deal just in time for the holidays. CUPE members are eager to get back to work so they can return to providing services at the club,” says CUPE National Representative John Strohmaier.

The new deal expires June 30, 2015 and CUPE 389 members will receive a five percent wage increase over the next 18 months.

The members of CUPE 389 who work at the North Shore Winter Club wish to thank everyone who has supported them during this lengthy and difficult lockout. The support, generosity and solidarity from other CUPE locals in BC and across Canada, other unions as well as many other organizations and community members was overwhelming and very much appreciated.
