Less staff means less service on Skytrain

Less staff means less service on Skytrain

BURNABY—CUPE 7000 (BC Rapid Transit, Skytrain workers) has launched an awareness campaign about the impact of recent significant layoffs in the IT department. Members are wearing buttons that say “Less staff, less service” to emphasize critical shortages in scheduling and maintenance, among other areas.

CUPE 7000 president Bill Magri says the planned reduction of important IT work within BC Rapid Transit is in fact a reduction to the total service provided to the public.

“We are amazed that the employer would be willing to lay off our unionized IT department to an extent that causes such a decline in access to critical information about important areas of the service,” says Magri.

“So we want the public to be aware of how this staff reduction will affect their service.”
