Rotating Strike Action in Community Health

VANCOUVER— CUPE 15 members who work at the Vancouver Costal Health Authority and the Robert and Lily Lee Family Community Health Centre, took action today (Nov.28) to show their employer and the BC government that health workers are serious about getting back to the table to negotiate a fair and reasonable agreement.

More than 14,000 community health care workers are still without a contract after more than ten months of bargaining.

Paul Faoro, CUPE 15 president, says that community health workers are looking for an agreement which includes no concessions and a modest wage increase.

“It’s time for the BC Liberal Provincial Government to treat front line heath care workers with respect and negotiate a fair deal,” he said.

CUPE represents approximately 500 members in the Community Bargaining Association which has over 14,000 members, the majority of whom are represented by the BCGEU.  Other Unions at the table are UFCW, HEU, HSA, and USWA.
