CUPE workers at Collingwood Neighbourhood House reach a tentative deal

CUPE workers at Collingwood Neighbourhood House reach a tentative deal

VANCOUVER —Child care workers at Collingwood Neighbourhood House have reached a tentative collective agreement. CUPE 1936-05 members have scheduled a ratification vote on the deal next week. The agreement comes as a relief after months of negotiations.

The CUPE 1936-05 bargaining committee achieved a wage settlement of 0-2-2% increases over three years. Extended health benefits were improved as well, with entitlements increasing for vision care and professional treatment allowances for all 90 members covered.

“One of the best parts of this agreement is that workers no longer have to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed for their medication,” explains CUPE Servicing Representative Don Devine. “The employer agreed to implement a direct billing system, which ensures workers will now get the health care they need with a minimum of hassle.”

(The local is not part of the Community Social Services Sectoral Bargaining Group, which is still in contract negotiations.)
