Rotating Strike Action begins in Nelson

NELSON—Rotating strike action will begin this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at the Nelson and District Community Complex (NDCC).

After giving the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) over a week to consult with its board of directors, CUPE 2262 president, Leford Lafayette, says the employer has returned to the table with little movement in their bargaining position.

“While the employer has amended their position to include a three-year deal, they still refuse to include a cost of living average over the term which is unacceptable,” said Lafayette. “Our members are prepared to fight for a fair and reasonable agreement.”

The union sub-local represents 55 members employed at NDCC including fitness technicians, lifeguards, Aquafit and swimming instructors, as well as maintenance, custodians and other positions at the pool and arena.
