Union welcomes mediation

QUESNEL–CUPE 1050, Quesnel municipal workers, are pleased that the City has agreed to engage the services of a mediator. The union applied for mediation on Wednesday to the Labour Relations Board and the employer has accepted.

“This is a positive step forward,” says CUPE 1050 president Dan Weiman. “We are looking forward to getting back to the table.”

Members of CUPE 1050 met on Sunday afternoon and voted to renew their strike mandate that expires at the end of August. Mediation is scheduled to begin in September.

“With the help of a mediator, we are optimistic and confident that we will reach an agreement,” says Weiman.

CUPE 1050 represents 114 municipal workers in Quesnel who provide municipal services. Talks broke off May 26 and they have been working without a contract since June.
