Trevor Davies elected new general vice-president of CUPE BC

KELOWNA—Trevor Davies has been elected general vice-president of the BC division of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, CUPE BC president Barry O’Neill announced today.

Davies, 28, is currently the chair of CUPE National’s Young Workers Task Force and is also general vice-president of CUPE Local 374, representing municipal workers in seven Greater Victoria communities. He has been a CUPE member for seven years, and works for the City of Colwood as a Health and Safety Adviser.

“I was inspired to step up and seek this position after attending Labour College this past year,” said Davies. “I’ve seen firsthand the positive difference CUPE makes for members in our workplaces, and I’m very keen to take on additional responsibility within the union to keep making progressive change throughout the province.”

Davies was elected by CUPE BC’s Executive Board during its annual Think Tank in Kelowna. He joins current GVPs Cindy McQueen, Paul Faoro and Debbie Taylor on CUPE BC’s executive.
