Richmond municipal workers reach tentative agreement

Richmond municipal workers reach tentative agreement

RICHMOND – CUPE 394 and CUPE 718, locals representing outside and inside municipal workers in Richmond respectively, have reached tentative agreements with the City.

The settlements were reached on Monday, following five months of collective bargaining between the locals and City management. Both local executives are recommending the tentative agreements to their respective memberships for ratification.

“These tentative agreements mean real improvements for our members. I’m pleased we can recommend them for ratification by our members,” says Stephen Mulgrew, president of CUPE 394.

Dal Benning, president of CUPE 718 echoed his local’s appreciation. “I’d like to thank the bargaining committees for all their work reaching these tentative agreements and thank all our members from both locals for their support throughout bargaining,” says Benning.

Details of the settlements will not be made available until CUPE 394 and CUPE 718 members have ratified their respective tentative agreements. Each local will hold ratification votes over the next 3 weeks.

CUPE 394 represents over 350 outside workers at the Public Works Yard, City parks, stores and recycling depot.

CUPE 718 represents over 1000 inside workers for the City of Richmond, working in various municipal facilities including City Hall, the RCMP and Public Works Yard Administrative offices, and other community and recreation facilities.
