Kirk Mercer was elected Regional Vice President, Vancouver Island Region, at CUPE BC's 54th annual convention in 2017. He has been a proud CUPE member at the University of Victoria for 12 years. He currently serves as 1st Vice-President for Local 951, and is also a member of the Skilled Trades Working Group since 2011. Kirk previously held the position of Deputy Chief Steward for many years and has served as an experienced member of the Negotiations committee from 2009 to 2015. Outside of his union activism Kirk enjoys practicing Kendo at the University of Victoria Kendo Club.
