Fraser Valley Library Workers ratify four-year deal

ABBOTSFORD—Members of CUPE 1698 voted in favour of ratifying a four-year collective agreement Sunday, June 10. 

The agreement includes a two per cent wage increase in each year of the agreement with a wage re-opener in the fourth year, as well as improvements to benefits and language.

CUPE 1698 president Laurie Dyck says that while there were some difficult discussions, ultimately both parties were able to reach a fair and reasonable agreement.

“This was a very respectful round of negotiations. The agreement that we came to is one that satisfies both the union and the library board,” said Dyck. “We have a very positive relationship with our employer which we will keep building as we continue providing our communities with quality public services.”

The Fraser Valley Regional Library extends from White Rock to Boston Bar with 24 community libraries plus the administrative centre. CUPE 1698’s members serve 15 municipalities in largest library system in BC.
