CUPE BC President to discuss Core Service Review

CUPE BC President to discuss Core Service Review

PRINCE GEORGE—CUPE BC President Barry O’Neill will be in Prince George discussing the negative impact Core Service Reviews have on communities this Wednesday, Jan.16.

The public event “City Services under Attack” aims to bring awareness to the flaws of these types of biased reviews says O’Neill.

“The name core service review has become a trendy name for privatization, reduced services and the sale of city infrastructure. Consulting firms are commonly in the business of promoting the privatization of public service work and often produce reports with the same template. Community residents expect their elected officials to make decisions in the best interest of the community not to line the pockets of consultants who make money by privatizing public services. We can’t continue to let private profits for a select few dictate the future of our Communities and the services that help make them such great places to live.”

According to CUPE 1048 president Janet Bigelow this event comes at a crucial time.

“Prince George City Council is about to make some big decisions, decisions that could affect every resident in Prince George. We encourage residents to come out to this event to hear about the potential negative impacts of Core Service Reviews,” said Bigelow.

“City Services under Attack” is taking place Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 5 p.m. at the Civic Centre and is open to all members of the public.
