CUPE BC establishes fund to support CUPE members affected by flooding

CUPE BC establishes fund to support CUPE members affected by flooding

CUPE BC has established a special fund to support CUPE members impacted by the flooding happening in communities across the province. The Division has donated $10,000 to the account and is encouraging CUPE Locals across the province to help raise additional funds.

Here’s a message from CUPE BC Secretary-Treasurer Trevor Davies to CUPE Locals regarding the floods across BC:

CUPE BC has started an account with a $10,000 donation in order to raise funds to help CUPE members in hardship as a result of the floods across British Columbia. We are seeking donations from Locals, District Councils and CUPE National to ensure we have enough funds to help the many members affected at this time.

Locals and District Councils who are interested in supporting this effort can send cheques to:

CUPE BC

#410-6222 Willingdon Avenue

Burnaby, BC

V5H 0G3

Indicate on the memo line: BC Flood account.

To access the funds:

Requests for funds can be made by local presidents to CUPE BC by emailing: info@cupe.bc.ca; and must include the following info:

  1. Name of member(s) and CUPE Local.
  2. Member’s contact information – including exactly where a cheque can be sent to.
  3. Brief description of the hardship situation. Some examples (but not limited to): lost home, evacuated, separated from family, special needs assistance, care for pets or livestock, etc.

We thank you in advance for your contributions and will ensure a prompt response to any requests to access funds.

Any unused funds at the end of the flooding season will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross for BC flood support.
