CUPE BC endorses Team Unite for Canadian Labour Congress leadership

CUPE BC endorses Team Unite for Canadian Labour Congress leadership

CUPE BC’s Executive Board has endorsed “Team Unite” for leadership positions at the Canadian Labour Congress’s upcoming convention. Team Unite is comprised of Bea Bruske for President, Lily Chang for Secretary-Treasurer and Siobhan Vipond for Executive Vice President.

“Delegates to our convention were able to hear from Bea Bruske and Team Unite yesterday, and they made a very positive impression on both delegates and our entire executive board,” said CUPE BC President Paul Faoro. “It’s long past time to make the CLC a more progressive voice for workers from coast to coast to coast and I am confident that Team Unite has the experience, the dedication and the commitment to do just that.”

Bruske is from the United Food and Commercial Workers, while Chang currently serves on the executive of CUPE Local 79 in Toronto, and Vipond, an IATSE member serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the Alberta Federation of Labour.

The executive board also joined with the CUPE National Executive Board to endorse Gloria Lepine, who is seeking the position of Equity Vice President representing Indigenous members and Gina McKay, who is seeking the position of Equity VP, representing LGBTQ2SI+ members.

“The labour movement in this country needs a stronger, more effective and more progressive collective voice,” said Faoro. “CUPE BC strongly supports Team Unite, and we look forward to demonstrating that support at the CLC convention in June.”
